Basketball Recap: Jack O'shaugnessy's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Vail Christian over Vail Mountain

Vail Christian was the 56-48 winner over Vail Mountain when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Vail Christian Saints came up short against the Vail Mountain Gore Rangers on Friday, falling 72-51. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Gore Rangers are ranked 98th).

Vail Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack O'Shaugnessy, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Asher Leonard, who posted 15 points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Vail Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Charlie Vidal continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Vail Mountain, going 8 for 11 en route to 18 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Those six steals gave Vidal a new career-high. Harrison Baumer was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 15 points.

Vail Christian now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Vail Mountain, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Vail Christian will head out to face off against West Grand at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vail Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.9 points per game this season. Vail Mountain has already played their next matchup, a 52-49 victory against Caprock Academy on the 11th.
