Preview: Glenwood Springs Demons vs. Palisade Bulldogs
Two dominant players in Sim Wenger and Hunter Howard are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Glenwood Springs Demons will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Palisade Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Glenwood Springs focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
The third road match was the charm for Glenwood Springs, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against Montrose by a score of 57-44. The win was all the more spectacular given Glenwood Springs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Montrose is ranked 25th).
Wenger continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Glenwood Springs' points. Another player making a difference was Alec Claassen, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Palisade's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell 47-40 to Fruita Monument. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Palisade in their matchups with Fruita Monument: they've now lost seven in a row.
Glenwood Springs' victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Palisade, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 6-9.
Glenwood Springs was able to grind out a solid victory over Palisade in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 69-60. Does Glenwood Springs have another victory up their sleeve, or will Palisade turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
