Softball Recap: Custer County Comes Up Short

Custer County had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it four. They fell just short of the Sidney Eagles by a score of 10-8. The Cowboys were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 11-8.

Jacie Chapweske was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Milee Ingraham, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Sidney's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

On Sidney's side, Amiya Steinbeisser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Steinbeisser.

On the hitting side, Madison Kapp was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Allison Thiel was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Custer County will head out to challenge Glasgow at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sidney, they will be playing at home against Dawson County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
