Basketball Recap: Elizabethton Comes Up Short

Elizabethton suffered their closest loss since February 16th on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Morristown-Hamblen East Hurricanes by a score of 71-69. The Fighting Cyclones have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Morristown-Hamblen East's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cory Carpenter, who went 9 of 14 en route to 23 points and seven assists. Those 23 points gave Carpenter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaxson Archer, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 17 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Elizabethton's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Morristown-Hamblen East, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-9.

Elizabethton and KACHEA will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Elizabethton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully KACHEA likes a good challenge. As for Morristown-Hamblen East, they will take on Mundy's Mill in a tournament on December 27th. Morristown-Hamblen East is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season.
