The Sehome Mariners will take on the Blaine Borderites at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sehome 4.1, Blaine 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Sehome and Nooksack Valley had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Mariners came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pioneers on Wednesday, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mariners have posted since March 22nd.
Hudson Neff was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Neff was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Sehome's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jad Geiger and Gunnar Anderson did most of the damage at the plate: Geiger went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Anderson got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave Anderson a new career-high. Gunnar Tweit was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Blaine has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.06 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They came up short against Oak Harbor, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Borderites' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
With the loss, Blaine broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-6. As for Sehome, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
Sehome came out on top in a nail-biter against Blaine in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Mariners repeat their success, or do the Borderites have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
