Football Game Preview: Seguin Matadors vs. New Braunfels Unicorns

Seguin hasn't had much luck against New Braunfels recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Matadors will take on the Unicorns at 7:00 p.m. New Braunfels took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Seguin, who comes in off a win.

Seguin will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up ten points last Friday, then bounced right back against Wagner on Friday. The Matadors strolled past the Thunderbirds with points to spare, taking the game 42-27. The victory was some much needed relief for the Matadors as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Corey Dailey produced another solid performance throwing for 377 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also rushing for 49 yards and two scores. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 301 passing yards per game.

Meanwhile, New Braunfels came up short against Smithson Valley on Friday and fell 27-14. The matchup marked the Unicorns' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Seguin will have to contain CAYDEN MILLS as he made an impact in New Braunfels' last game. He picked up 96 receiving yards and one TD.

New Braunfels' loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Seguin, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Dailey and LEVI GOLLA. Dailey just won't slow down this season and has thrown 20 touchdowns (and and only 3 pick) while averaging 301 passing yards per game. GOLLA has been a dominant force too and has averaged 178.9 passing yards per game.

Seguin ended up a good deal behind New Braunfels in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, losing 41-24. Thankfully for the Matadors, CLAYTON NAMKEN (who threw for 185 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 42 yards and one score) won't be suiting up this time.
