Recap: Hagerstown Tigers vs. Muncie Burris Owls
This season hasn't been kind to the Hagerstown Tigers, who are still winless after their 19th match. They took a 49-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Muncie Burris. Hagerstown was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Muncie Burris apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2020.
When it comes to explaining why Hagerstown lost on Saturday, one person who can't be blamed is Kasiti Ferriell. Despite the final result, she scored 11 points along with five assists and five steals. Ferriell hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Elly Cheeseman, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Hagerstown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Muncie Burris' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Layliana El Deeb, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that El Deeb scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Bucur, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Hagerstown's loss was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-19. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.4 points per game. As for Muncie Burris, their victory bumped their record up to 2-14.
Hagerstown will be playing at home against Union City at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Muncie Burris' road trip will continue as they head out to face Muncie Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Muncie Central has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 30.
