Basketball Recap: Simmons Takes a Loss

Simmons was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 69-56 to the Leflore County Tigers. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 63-56 last Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Simmons still got an impressive performance from Carl Lucas Jr., who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 boards. Lucas Jr. is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down 12 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lebron Morris, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 10 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Simmons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Simmons' defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Leflore County, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Simmons and Cleveland Central will round out the year against one another at at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Cleveland Central will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Simmons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Leflore County, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Riverside at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
