Softball Recap: Neptune Takes a Loss

Neptune was the 8-4 winner over Brick Township when they last played one another back in May of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Scarlet Fliers lost 17-6 to the Green Dragons on Monday.

Gianna Massimino and Lauren Cassidy did some serious damage despite the final result: Massimino went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Cassidy scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Cassidy also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Sian Daniels was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

Neptune has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Brick Township, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4.

Looking ahead, Neptune will be playing at home against Keyport at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Brick Township, they will take on Ranney at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
