Basketball Recap: Mitchell County Eagles vs. Randolph-Clay Red Devils
After flying high against Miller County last Tuesday, Mitchell County came back down to earth. The Mitchell County Eagles took a 58-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Randolph-Clay Red Devils on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-45 back in December of 2024.
Randolph-Clay's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaleen Gibson led the charge by going 9 of 13 to rack up 25 points and five boards. What's more, Gibson also posted a 69% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's posted since back in November of 2024. Jes'Us Daniels was another key player, putting up 14 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.
Mitchell County's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Randolph-Clay, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-2 record this season.
Mitchell County has already played their next game, a 69-65 win against Terrell County on the 6th. As for Randolph-Clay, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 75-51 victory against Quitman County on the 6th.
