Softball Game Preview: Sundown Roughnecks vs. Ralls Jackrabbits

Sundown hasn't had much luck against Ralls recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Roughnecks will challenge the Jackrabbits at 5:00 p.m. Sundown's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Ralls' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Sundown is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Midland Christian on Tuesday. They lost 9-2 to the Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Roughnecks have suffered since March 4th.

Brynly Gregory was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Ralls came up short against Abernathy on Thursday, falling 16-6. The loss continues a trend for the Jackrabbits in their meetings with the Antelopes: they've now lost six in a row.

Mercedez Alcala made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Garza, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

Sundown's defeat dropped their record down to 22-5. As for Ralls, their loss dropped their record down to 10-14-1.

Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sundown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .482. However, it's not like Ralls struggles in that department as they've averaged .430. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Sundown took their victory against Ralls in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Roughnecks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
