Basketball Recap: Stone Takes a Loss

After soaring to 76 points the game before, Stone was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They were outmatched by the Laurel Golden Tornadoes and fell 67-29. While losing is never fun, the Tomcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while the Golden Tornadoes are ranked 55th).

Despite the loss, Stone still got an impressive performance from Isaiah Scarbrough, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Scarbrough is becoming a predictor of Stone's success: when he posts at least ten boards the team is 5-1 (and 7-13 when he doesn't). Kylan Burnett also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Stone's loss dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Laurel, they pushed their record up to 22-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Stone has already played their next game, a 61-42 defeat against Gautier on the 7th. As for Laurel, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 65-52 win against Wayne County on the 7th.
