Flag Football Recap: Santa Margarita's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Santa Margarita dropped to 18-5 on Thursday, ending the team's five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell 26-13 to the Orange Lutheran Lancers. Having soared to a lofty 37 points in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

Although Santa Margarita took the loss, they still got scores from Gia Hinman and Avery Finneran.

As for Orange Lutheran, they pushed their record up to 19-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.2 points.

A big part of Orange Lutheran's victory came down to the chemistry between Makena Cook and her top target Josie Anderson. Cook threw for 308 yards and four TDs while completing 77.3% of her passes while Anderson picked up 160 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Anderson was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 66 yards.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Santa Margarita is set to take on their familiar foe JSerra Catholic at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Eagles 12, the Lions 5.7) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Orange Lutheran will square off against rival Mater Dei at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Cook and Kendra Hansen.
