Softball Recap: Jonesport-Beals Takes a Loss

If Jonesport-Beals was riding high fresh off their 12-2 takedown of Shead on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Royals came up short against the Machias Bulldogs on Tuesday, falling 12-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Royals have suffered since April 25th.

Aspen Alley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and eight unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Makayla Merchant made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Melody Gray, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Jonesport-Beals' loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Machias, the win keeps they at an undefeated 12-0.

Jonesport-Beals does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Machias, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Deer Isle-Stonington at 4:30 p.m.
