Softball Game Preview: West Potomac Wolverines vs. Hayfield Hawks

The West Potomac Wolverines are taking a road trip to take on the Hayfield Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

West Potomac took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against South County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolverines sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Stallions on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wolverines as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Sabrina Driggers, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Mackenzie Garr also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Hayfield made easy work of Justice on Tuesday and carried off a 16-1 win. Considering the Hawks have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

The victory made it two in a row for Hayfield and bumps their season record up to 8-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for West Potomac, their record is now 4-7.

West Potomac might still be hurting after the 17-6 defeat they got from Hayfield when the teams last played back in May of 2021. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
