Baseball Game Preview: Greenville Comets vs. Altamont Indians

The Greenville Comets will venture away from home to square off against the Altamont Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Altamont will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Greenville extended their winning streak to six on Monday. The Comets' pitchers stepped up to hand Carlinville a 12-0 shutout.

Altamont never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Mulberry Grove on Tuesday. They blew past the Aces 20-5. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Aces: they've now won four in a row.

Carson Milleville was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keegan Schultz, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Bell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Altamont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Greenville's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Altamont, their record is now 16-6.

Greenville beat Altamont 5-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
