Softball Recap: Catonsville Comes Up Short

Catonsville extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 3-4. They came up short against the Mount de Sales Academy Sailors, falling 14-1. The Comets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sailors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Catonsville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Meiller, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Mount de Sales Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games.

On Mount de Sales Academy's side, Reese Barchanowicz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, Barchanowicz posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2025. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Quinn Hastings was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Olivia Van Fossen, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Catonsville will venture away from home to square off against Dundalk at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Comets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Owls have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Mount de Sales Academy, they will head out to take on McDonogh at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sailors will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
