Softball Game Preview: Cimarron-Memorial Spartans vs. Desert Pines Jaguars

Cimarron-Memorial is a perfect 3-0 against Desert Pines since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 3:30 p.m. Desert Pines took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Cimarron-Memorial, who comes in off a win.

Cimarron-Memorial will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs two weeks ago, then bounced right back against Durango last Thursday. Cimarron-Memorial was the clear victors by a 22-7 margin over Durango. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Trailblazers: they've now won six in a row.

Jazlyn Ramos was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Cimarron-Memorial let Jasmine Ponce and Myra Cano run wild. Ponce went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while Cano scored four runs and stole Five bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs Ponce has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Ramos, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4.

Cimarron-Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Durango only posted an OBP of .385.

Meanwhile, Desert Pines was not able to break out of their rough patch last Monday as the team picked up their 19th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 43-15 to Las Vegas. Even if the Jaguars couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

The win got Cimarron-Memorial back to even at 2-2. As for Desert Pines, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Cimarron-Memorial took their victory against Desert Pines in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-2. Does Cimarron-Memorial have another victory up their sleeve, or will Desert Pines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
