Baseball Game Preview: Spruce Timberwolves vs. Adams Cougars

For the second straight game, Spruce will face off against Adams. Spruce will be playing in front of their home fans against Adams at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Spruce has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while Adams will come in with four straight wins.

Spruce fell victim to Adams and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 10-0.

For Adams' part, Ethan Segovia tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Segovia also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Adams is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Adams let Christian Rodriguez and Nick Ortiz run wild. Rodriguez got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one triple, while Ortiz scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Ortiz has become a key player for Adams: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Justino Chavarria was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Adams' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Spruce, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
