Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Floydada's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Floydada unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Abernathy Antelopes by a score of 58-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Whirlwinds have suffered since December 3, 2024.

Despite the loss, Floydada still got an impressive performance from Braun Hobbs, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. The game was Hobbs' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Sergio Valadez was another key player, going 6 for 15 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds.

Floydada's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 15-9. As for Abernathy, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Floydada will challenge Ralls at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Floydada's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last ten contests. As for Abernathy, they will head out to square off against New Home at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Abernathy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully New Home likes a good challenge.
