Football Game Preview: Bowie Bears vs. Austin Panthers

The Bowie Bears will venture away from home to face off against the Austin Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bowie has given up an average of 39.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Bowie took a blow against Mountain View, falling 55-28.

Bowie might have lost, but man, Derek Montanez was a machine: he rushed for 122 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 37 receiving yards and one score.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Austin's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Riverside by a score of 27-24. The matchup was a 10-10 toss-up at halftime, but the Panthers couldn't quite close it out.

Bowie will have to contain Joel Castaneda as he made an impact in Austin's last game. He rushed for 130 yards on only 15 carries.

Bowie's record is now 1-7. As for Austin, their record now sits at 5-3.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Bowie has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 158.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Austin struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 363.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Bowie took a serious blow against Austin in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 41-7. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
