With a playoff win on the line, Mt. Vernon rose to the challenge on Saturday. Everything went their way against the St. Charles Cardinals as they made off with a 3-0 win. This was a revenge game for the Yellowjackets: when they faced off against the Cardinals back in April, they had to take a 3-0 defeat.
Hunter Thompson paced Mt. Vernon's offense, picking up 12 kills. Thompson got some help from Isaiah Campbell and his 30 assists. Finally, Brysen Armstrong kept Mt. Vernon's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.
Mt. Vernon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. As for St. Charles, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-8.
After both having extra time off, Mt. Vernon and St. Vincent-St. Mary will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Charles does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
