Football Game Preview: Sharyland Rattlers vs. Roma Gladiators

Sharyland is 8-2 against Roma since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Rattlers will face off against the Gladiators at 7:00 p.m. Sharyland will be strutting in after a win while Roma will be coming in after a loss.

Sharyland took a 25-point defeat the last time they faced off against Alice, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rattlers slipped by the Coyotes 32-31 on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Rattlers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Kevin Alaniz had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 146 yards and one score on only 13 carries. Those 146 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Oscar Cantu was in the mix as well, providing Sharyland with two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Roma came up short against Pioneer on Friday and fell 35-28.

Roma didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ahmed Guerra and Joel Haines.

Roma's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-3. As for Sharyland, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.

Sharyland didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Roma in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 35-31 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rattlers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
