Basketball Recap: Deseret Peak Comes Up Short

Deseret Peak extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping them down to 4-14. They were outmatched by the Mountain Crest Mustangs and fell 70-43. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Mustangs are ranked 23rd).

Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alayanna Jorgensen, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds. Taylor Fawson was another key player, putting up 14 points along with six boards and four steals.

As for Mountain Crest, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.6 points over those games.

Mountain Crest found their leader in sophomore Emersyn Brown, who went 9-for-13 to rack up 20 points and five steals. Brown is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in each of the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Leighton Pratt, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Looking ahead, Deseret Peak will square off against Stansbury at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Eagles will be up against the Stallions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 54.44 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mountain Crest, they have already played their next contest, a 58-36 victory against Bear River on the 22nd.
