Baseball Game Preview: Northwest Lions vs. Windsor Owls

The Northwest Lions will head out to square off against the Windsor Owls at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Northwest is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Northwest fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Seckman on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 8-7.

Jackson Venatta made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Hawkins, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Windsor, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over St. Charles on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Owls as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Keegan Murphy made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Windsor's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Skyler Johnson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

Northwest's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Windsor, their record is now 6-9.
