Preview: Richfield Spartans vs. DeLaSalle Islanders
Richfield is 0-8 against DeLaSalle since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Richfield Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the DeLaSalle Islanders at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Richfield's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Even though Washburn scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, Richfield still came out on top. Richfield blew past Washburn 77-57. Given Richfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Washburn is ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Richfield's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Desirai Chappell, who scored 25 points along with 8 rebounds, and Aniiya Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zarihana Rennie, who scored 6 points along with 13 rebounds and 4 steals.
Meanwhile, even though Alexandria scored an imposing 64 points last Saturday, DeLaSalle still came out on top. DeLaSalle walked away with a 74-64 win over Alexandria.
Their wins bumped Richfield to 4-0 and Washburn to 2-3.
Richfield was dealt a bruising 76-31 defeat at the hands of DeLaSalle in their previous meeting back in January. Can Richfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
