Softball Game Preview: Mission College Prep Royals vs. St. Joseph Knights

Mission College Prep is 1-9 against St. Joseph since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Royals will face off against the Knights at 4:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Mission College Prep didn't have quite enough to beat Cabrillo and fell 4-2.

Landrie Hinrichs put in work while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in February. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

Hinrichs wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mikaylee Gordon, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Violet D'Orazio-Lelli also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, St. Joseph came tearing into Friday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 5-1.

Like Mission College Prep, St. Joseph also got a great game from a two-way player: Taylor Mediano. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Mediano has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

St. Joseph pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Mission College Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.

Mission College Prep might still be hurting after the 11-2 loss they got from St. Joseph when the teams last played back in March. Can the Royals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
