Softball Recap: Summer Creek's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Summer Creek entered their tilt with King on Friday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 10-0 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by seven runs or more this season.

Alyssa Flores made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Elaina Bonuelos and Bella Melchor did most of the damage at the plate: Bonuelos went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Melchor got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave Melchor a new career-high. Olivia Maciel was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

Summer Creek pushed their record up to 21-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for King, their loss dropped their record down to 16-10-1.

Summer Creek and King should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Bulldogs will challenge Goose Creek Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (12 vs. 192). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Summer Creek 2.7, the Patriots 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, King (ranked 118th) will meet Humble (ranked 813th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
