Basketball Game Preview: Vashon Island Pirates vs. Interlake Saints

The Vashon Island Pirates are taking a road trip to challenge the Interlake Saints at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Vashon Island is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against East Jefferson [Port Townsend/Chimacum] on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Vashon Island might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 56-31 to East Jefferson [Port Townsend/Chimacum], which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Pirates were down 49-18 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Meanwhile, Interlake had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They breezed by the Eagles to the tune of 83-38. The Saints have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Interlake's win came from a few key players Vashon Island will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Harper Moore, who went 12 of 23 on her way to 29 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. Those seven assists gave her a new career-high. Tiffany Shaw was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 19 points and nine steals.

Vashon Island's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Interlake, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
