Softball Game Preview: Concord Minutemen vs. Mishawaka Cavemen

Concord is 2-8 against Mishawaka since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Minutemen are taking a road trip to challenge the Cavemen at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Concord will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Northridge, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Minutemen walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Raiders on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Minutemen sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Concord let Cassi Reames and Janessa Bennett run wild. Reames went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Bennett went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI. Those three doubles gave Bennett a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Esmeralda Perez, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Concord kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Mishawaka gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over Plymouth. The result was nothing new for the Cavemen, who have now won 11 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Concord's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Mishawaka, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Concord might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Mishawaka in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Minutemen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
