Softball Game Preview: Sabine Cardinals vs. West Rusk Raiders

For the second straight game, Sabine will face off against West Rusk. The Cardinals will face off against the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sabine is on a six-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and West Rusk a five-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck.

Sabine is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against West Rusk on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-6 victory. The Cardinals not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12, 2024.

Maycie Westbrook was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off 11 hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances. Those runs marked the first that she scored this season.

In other batting news, Breanna Hill and Madison Pierce did most of the damage at the plate: Hill scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5, while Pierce scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Hill a new career-high in RBI (three). Emma Bradford was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-5.

Sabine hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.

West Rusk's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Sabine, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-12.
