Softball Recap: Athens Drops Season-High Score on Alexander

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Athens). They blew past the Alexander Spartans 19-6 on Wednesday. Considering the Bulldogs have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

The win (which was Athens' sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Alexander, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coming up, Athens will square off against River Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.46 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Alexander, they will take on Wellston at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Rockets' pitching crew has only allowed 1.1 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
