Basketball Recap: Western Reserve's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Western Reserve had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.8 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They took down the McDonald Blue Devils 58-44. Given Western Reserve's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while McDonald is ranked 428th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

McDonald lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Juliana Krumpak, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Callow, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 15 points and six rebounds.

Western Reserve's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.9 points per game. As for McDonald, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Reserve and Mineral Ridge will compete for holiday cheer at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. McDonald and Girard will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. McDonald has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
