Baseball Recap: Polytechnic Takes a Loss

Polytechnic extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 3-9. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Palm Springs Indians. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 7-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2025.

Caiden Kennedy and Elijah Ip did some serious damage despite the final result: Kennedy went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Ip went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Polytechnic is 2-1 when Kennedy posts two or more runs, but 1-8 otherwise.

As for Palm Springs, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On Palm Springs' side, Sean Meza made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave Meza a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meza wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Davelle Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Another was Chase Clemons, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Polytechnic will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on de Toledo at 3:30 p.m. on the 31st. As for Palm Springs, they will square off against Palm Desert at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
