Basketball Preview: Whitmire Wolverines vs. South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind Hornets
Whitmire is 10-0 against the Hornets since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Whitmire Wolverines have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. Hopefully Whitmire is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Hornets in South Carolina (the Wolverines are ranked 291st, while the Hornets are ranked 625th).
On Monday, Whitmire was able to grind out a solid win over the Saints, taking the game 27-19. The victory was just what Whitmire needed coming off of a 48-16 defeat in their prior matchup.
Whitmire relied on the efforts of Brooklynn Babb, who scored seven points along with four steals, and Trystan Samples, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and five blocks. Another player making a difference was Alleigh Corley, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind, who are still winless after their ninth game. They were outmatched by Dixie on the road and fell 55-23. South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind has struggled against the Hornets recently, as their game on Monday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Whitmire's victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-17. As for South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Whitmire took their victory against the Hornets when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 38-15. Will Whitmire repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
