Softball Game Preview: Schoolcraft Eagles vs. Mendon Hornets

The Schoolcraft Eagles will square off against the Mendon Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Schoolcraft has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight defeats, while Mendon will come in with nine straight victories.

Schoolcraft lost 14-2 to Kalamazoo Christian on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, while Mendon put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Burr Oak. The Hornets walked away with a 3-0 win over the Bobcats. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Hornets have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Not much got past Rowan Allen, who gave up just two hits and racked up 16 Ks to keep Burr Oak off the board. Allen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ally Butler, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elise Allen, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Mendon pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Schoolcraft, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.
