Basketball Recap: Jake Scott's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cherokee Trail over Smoky Hill

Cherokee Trail suffered their closest loss since January 19, 2024 on Wednesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (58-56), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They were probably out for revenge after losing 55-53 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jake Scott, who posted 12 points along with five boards and four steals. Those four steals gave Scott a new career-high. Jordan Mitchell was another key player, putting up 13 points and four steals.

Smoky Hill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carter Basquez led the charge by posting 16 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Basquez's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylan Graham, who earned 12 points along with five assists and five boards.

Cherokee Trail's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Smoky Hill, the victory also got them back to even at 8-8.

Cherokee Trail didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-45 loss against Cherry Creek on the 31st. As for Smoky Hill, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 78-48 win against Mullen on the 31st.
