Football Recap: Cape Fear Skates Past Sanderson with Ease

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Cape Fear had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed past the Sanderson Spartans to the tune of 47-7. Considering the Colts have won six contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

It was another big night for Geronimo Sanchez, who rushed for 123 yards and one score on only 13 carries, and also threw for 134 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes. What's more, he racked up 143.8 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Cape Fear's leading receiver Landon Underwood was Sanchez's top target yet again, picking up 71 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while also rushing for 43 yards.

Cape Fear's run defense was locked in: Sanderson could only muster 3.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Dacori Davis for the heroic effort on defense: he. Cape Fear didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.5.

Cape Fear didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Davis and Ja'Keal Williams. Davis is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last eight games he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Cape Fear pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.0 points over those games. As for Sanderson, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
