Basketball Recap: Natchez Takes a Loss

Natchez was the 58-42 winner over Port Gibson when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Bulldogs fell 76-65 to the Blue Waves on Friday. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Natchez lost, don't look at Daylan Haywood. Despite the final result, he went 9-for-18 en route to 31 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Haywood is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 11 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was William Johnson, who shot 46% from the field to rack up 20 points and seven rebounds.

Natchez's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Port Gibson, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Looking ahead, Natchez is taking a road trip to challenge McComb at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50.6 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Port Gibson, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 61-25 loss against St. Stanislaus on the 29th.
