Baseball Recap: Perrysburg Picks Up Seventh Straight Win at Home

Perrysburg had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Start on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets' pitchers stepped up to hand the Spartans a 9-0 shutout. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Perrysburg got a great performance from Grant Petteys as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Petteys a new career-high.

At the plate, Braxton Mefferd was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of JD Zeeb, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Perrysburg hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Perrysburg pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Start, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5-1.

Coming up, Perrysburg will host Bowling Green at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Start, they are taking a road trip to square off against Bowsher at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
