Softball Game Preview: Stockdale Mustangs vs. Clovis North Broncos

The Stockdale Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Clovis North Broncos at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Stockdale's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Clovis North's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Stockdale is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over St. Joseph. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Meanwhile, Clovis North posted their closest win since April 2nd on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Madera 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Broncos sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Jocelynn Gonzalez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 22 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kayleigh Lua, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Brynn Gentry was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Stockdale's record now sits at 20-6. As for Clovis North, their record is now 20-5-2.

Stockdale couldn't quite get it done against Clovis North when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 9-6. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
