Basketball Recap: Shamar Mccray's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Warhill over Smithfield

If Warhill was feeling good fresh off their 64-38 takedown of York last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Warhill Lions fell 50-39 to the Smithfield Packers on Friday. The match marked the Lions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shamar McCray, who posted six points. McCray is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Hunter Brown was another key player, going 5 for 12 on his way to 11 points and eight rebounds.

Warhill has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. As for Smithfield, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2.

Warhill didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 58-51 loss against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy on the 1st. As for Smithfield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 71-57 victory against Salem on the 3rd.
