Basketball Recap: Alpaugh Takes a Loss

Alpaugh was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a hard 44-30 fall against the Laton Mustangs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Buffalos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-40 back in November of 2024.

Laton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaythan Garcia led the charge by putting up nine points in addition to six steals and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Garcia a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jesus Bocanegra, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Alpaugh's defeat dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Laton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-14.

Alpaugh has already played their next game (against Riverdale Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Laton will take on Wonderful College Prep Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Laton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
