Basketball Preview: Holmes County Blue Devils vs. Altha Wildcats

Holmes County has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They and the Altha Wildcats will face off on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Holmes County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully the Wildcats like a good challenge.

Holmes County scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Walton by a score of 79-67. Given Holmes County's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Braves are ranked 323rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Holmes County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Whitaker, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 19 rebounds. Whitaker has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Karson McGowan, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Altha, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 31-17 loss to the Tigers on Tuesday.

Holmes County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Altha, they dropped their record down to 3-18 with that defeat, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.
