Recap: Mercer County Titans vs. Franklin County Flyers
After flying high against the East Jessamine Jaguars last Tuesday, the Mercer County Titans came back down to earth. Mercer County was the victim of a rough 61-35 defeat at the hands of Franklin County on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Mercer County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Franklin County is ranked tenth).
Several Titans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ak Drakeford, who scored 17 points along with six assists. That was a full 48.6% of Mercer County's points, marking the 12th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sara Dunn was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Mercer County's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Franklin County, they pushed their record up to 14-6 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mercer County will square off against West Jessamine at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Jessamine is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games. As for Franklin County, they will head out on the road to take on Conner at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
