Volleyball Game Preview: Mendota Trojans vs. Newman Central Catholic Comets

Mendota is 2-8 against Newman Central Catholic since September of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Trojans will square off against the Comets at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Mendota turned things around against Sandwich on Thursday. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over the Indians. The match marked the Trojans' most dominant win of the season.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Mendota took both sets by at least 13 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-12.

Meanwhile, Newman Central Catholic had just enough and edged out Rockridge 2-1 on Wednesday.

Newman Central Catholic had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 16-25, 25-19, 25-21.

Mendota picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 6-27-1. As for Newman Central Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 16-18.

Mendota came up short against Newman Central Catholic when the teams last played on October 7th, falling 2-0. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
