Baseball Game Preview: Southwest Dragons vs. Winn Mavericks

The Southwest Dragons will head out to square off against the Winn Mavericks at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Southwest's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Winn's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Southwest and Harlandale had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Dragons had just enough and edged out the Indians 3-2.

Alex Rico tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Southwest's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jeiden Alfaro, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Alfaro has posted since back in March.

Meanwhile, Winn got themselves on the board against McCollum on Thursday, but McCollum never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Cowboys. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mavericks.

Southwest's record is now 15-5-1. As for Winn, their record now sits at 13-5.

Southwest came out on top in a nail-biter against Winn in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
