Baseball Game Preview: Cardinal Hayes Cardinals vs. St. Luke's Storm

The Cardinal Hayes Cardinals will venture away from home to challenge the St. Luke's Storm at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Cardinal Hayes is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Cardinal Hayes is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell 13-8 to Cardinal Spellman on Wednesday.

Jonathan Reyes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Fausto Dominguez, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run.

Meanwhile, St. Luke's suffered their closest defeat since May 14, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Hamden Hall Country Day by a score of 6-4.

St. Luke's saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Pepp Biasotti, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

St. Luke's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Cardinal Hayes, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cardinal Hayes has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Luke's struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Cardinal Hayes was able to grind out a solid win over St. Luke's in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-3. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Storm have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
