Baseball Recap: Athens Takes a Loss

After flying high against Grissom last Thursday, Athens came back down to earth. The Athens Golden Eagles fell just short of the Brooks Lions by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Golden Eagles have suffered since February 22nd.

Athens saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John Lawrence Chittam, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

The loss snapped Athens' winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-3 record. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Brooks, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Athens will take on West Morgan at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Athens' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so West Morgan's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Brooks, they will challenge Hatton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hatton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
