Softball Game Preview: Butler Bulldogs vs. Myers Park Mustangs

The Butler Bulldogs will head out to square off against the Myers Park Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Butler has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Last Tuesday, Butler came up short against Charlotte Catholic and fell 12-7.

Cherie Carter was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Myers Park got themselves on the board against Berry on Thursday, but Berry never followed suit. They blew past the Cardinals 15-0. With that win, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Ryann Rempson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Camille Christian, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Myers Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Myers Park and bumps their season record up to 4-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 16 runs. As for Butler, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Butler's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. Butler has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Myers Park, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Butler continue to outrun the ball?

Butler suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Myers Park in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can Butler avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
